CCJL Legal Advisory Board
CCJL’s Legal Advisory Board might be considered our “secret weapon.”
Consisting of about two dozen of the state’s best and brightest civil defense attorneys, the LAB meets monthly to craft and troubleshoot legislation and to review cases before the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
LAB activities aim to preserve common-sense statutes enacted over the past 30 years by preparing “friend of the court” briefs on cases that threaten to erode the critical balance between justice for those who may have been wronged and fairness for those who have been wrongfully accused.
LAB activities include:
- Analyzing legislation under consideration before the Colorado General Assembly. LAB members help CCJL work with legislators to draft pro-active legislation and examine bills that improperly expand liability to help our lobbying team effectively explain “the rest of the story” and unintended consequences, especially to legislators who are unfamiliar with civil litigation.
- Drafting amicus briefs on behalf of CCJL in key cases before the Supreme Court or Court of Appeals. CCJL participates in select cases in which liability may be improperly expanded, statutory language misapplied, or rule of law undermined. CCJL collaborates with business allies to develop the best strategy to cover all relevant arguments.
Participation in the LAB is by invitation only but is available to attorneys who are affiliated with and recommended by CCJL members.
